Elliott Jay Fegelman, MD
Elliott Jay Fegelman, MD is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio having graduated
from Wyoming High School in 1978. He received his Bachelor degree in
English from Denison University in Granville, Ohio where he was an
All-American Swimmer. Dr. Fegelman completed his medical school training
at Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, followed
by a six year surgical residency in General Surgery at the University
of Cincinnati. During his residency he spent one year of training in
gastrointestinal malignancies at The Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong,
in the Department of Surgery of The University of Hong Kong. While
attending medical school, Dr. Fegelman was elected to the Alpha Omega
Alpha Honor Society and received the Merck Award for Superior Academic
Achievement. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992
at Denison University. During his residency, he was awarded the Max
Zinninger Award for Outstanding Surgical Resident and the Resident
Teaching Award.
Dr. Fegelman is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is
the Southwest District counselor for the Ohio Chapter of the American
College of Surgeons. He is a current member of the Society of Gastrointestinal
and Endoscopic Surgeons, Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati and the
Cincinnati Surgical Society where he is past-president.
Upon completion of his surgical training, Dr. Fegelman joined the Department
of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati as an Assistant Professor
of Surgery. He was appointed Director of Surgical Education at The
Christ Hospital in 1994, a position he held until October of 2000 when
he became Director of General Surgery, which ended June 2002. At that
time he accepted his current position as Program Director and Chairman
of the Department of Surgery at the Jewish Hospital. Dr. Fegelman has
been in the private practice of General Surgery with Cincinnati General
Surgeons, Inc. since 1997. His primary surgical interests are in minimally
invasive techniques for the management of gastrointestinal disease
and of breast disease and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Fegelman is married to Suzanne Spicer Fegelman of Bethesda, MD.
They have one son, Joseph, who was born in Hong Kong in 1991. He enjoys
skiing in the winter and motorcycle riding in the summer.
